Student Wins MOTOROKR STAR and Will Record Her First Single in NY
The São Paulo candidate was chosen from ten finalists and will have Fergie and Wyclef Jean as producers, along with a one-year record deal.
São Paulo, February 18, 2009 - At 18 years old, Patricia Fernandes from São Paulo was the grand winner of the first edition of MOTOROKR STAR, a contest organized by Motorola to find the next Brazilian music talent. The student stood out among the ten finalists, with their work analyzed by singer and music producer Wyclef Jean. As a prize, Patrícia won a trip to New York to record a single. She will be accompanied by pop icon Fergie and Wyclef Jean himself, who will produce the track exclusively written for her by the music producer.
In its first edition, MOTOROKR Star included the participation of internet users from across the country. To compete for the prize, Patrícia recorded her own version of the song Alone by the band Heart and uploaded the material to the contest's website. The winner, who impressed the Haitian producer with her pitch and natural voice, will fly to the United States in the coming weeks to enter a studio for the first time. Additionally, the student will sign a one-year contract with a record label. "I am very happy with this opportunity, which promises to be the opportunity of my life," declares Patricia, a fan of pop and MPB. "Music is a means of expression, and I thank Motorola for making my dream come true," concludes the young artist.
Patrícia's video, selected by Wyclef Jean, can be seen on the page www.motorola.com.br/motorokrstar.
MOTOROKR STAR is part of Motorola’s music initiatives, which is now one of the company's main focuses. In 2008 alone, five devices entered the market with features specifically for this sector, bringing the total number of music phones in their portfolio to 12. In addition, the company invests in its own festival, Motomix, which in its sixth edition last year attracted over 10,000 people to Ibirapuera Park in São Paulo.
